At Dorset Gardens we believe in the power of prayer, but we don't think it's something
we should keep to ourselves.  So why not use our small Chapel for your own private
prayer.  We're open most days of the week, and every Thursday at 1.00 pm we hold a
short Service of Prayer & Praise in the same Chapel.  It lasts only for about half
an hour, but if you're looking for deep peace and relaxation, in friendly company!, it
might be just the place for you.  Why not try it?
And, if you have a problem we'll pray for you.  Whatever kind of problem you have,
it's good to know there's someone on your side.  So just write down the details and post
it through our letter box or take it to reception.  If you wish we can begin our prayers for
you by mobilising our Prayer Chain.  We'll treat your request in confidence and pray
for you for a month, or longer if you ask us to.  We won't contact you unless you ask, and
we don't even need to know your name.  Of course, we don't promise miracles, but Dorset
Gardens Church is here for you!  You could also email us if you prefer - there's a link at
the top of this page.
Christians have always viewed their purpose in life as being "to live and work to God's praise
and glory".  Worship provides an important channel for the fulfilment of that purpose.  In
worship we praise and thank God for all the blessings we enjoy; we are inspired and challenged
as a community; we are strengthened to serve God in the world.
Because our worship area is so flexible, we worship God in many different ways:-
Sunday Worship
On three Sunday mornings a month, at 10.30 am, we gather for a traditional Methodist service.
Because we Methodists love to sing, our services include both the great hymns of our tradition
and the best of the wide range of new music from around the world.  Our choir, "The Dorset Singers",
lead us, and occasionally our group "Soul Patrol" also take part.  There is a children's section to
the service, a sermon, prayers and, once a month, the sacrament of Holy Communion.  After the
children's section they go to their own "Sunday Club".
On the other Sunday in the month we worship as a church family with something for all ages.
This service is more informal and even the very young are able to be part of things.  On that
same Sunday we also hold a short Communion Service at 9 am.
On three Sunday evenings at 6.30 pm we try to experiment with different approaches to worship.  We might
have a drama and discussion evening; an evening of praise and testimony; or an evening focussing on
prayer, with an opportunity to receive the laying-on of hands.  Once a month these services include
Holy Communion.
Café Connexion
Café Connexion is a lively, informal and relaxed café-style worship held on the second Sunday of
each month at 7.30 pm (doors open 7 pm).
Our modern church is laid out as a café for the evening, with fair-trade real coffee, tea and
chocolate available, as well as soft drinks, smoothies and snacks.
Each evening has its own theme and at its centre is a time of reflection and meditation
following a time of discussion.
There is live music, featuring a band and singers who perform predominantly modern worship
music, although there is always room for a great hymn to join in with.
Mid-week Worship
On Thursdays at 1 pm we meet in our small Chapel for a short service, which includes prayer, reflection
and music.
